Our philosophy

Gentle support. Natural growth.

A trellis doesn’t tell a plant how to grow. It simply offers support where it’s needed, so the plant can climb toward the light in its own way. That is how we see our role in your child’s early years.

Montessori-inspired

Rooted in a century of observation

Dr. Maria Montessori spent her life observing how young children actually learn. She saw that children are driven by a deep inner wish to understand their world and to become independent within it — and that they learn best through their hands, their senses and their own repeated, purposeful activity.

Tiny Trellis is Montessori-inspired: we draw on these principles, materials and ways of working with children to shape our environment and daily rhythm.

We describe ourselves as Montessori-inspired rather than accredited. Any accreditation or affiliation will be stated here only once confirmed.

Three pillars

What we believe children need

01

Freedom to Explore

Children discover through purposeful activity, meaningful choices and hands-on experiences.

02

Confidence to Become

Everyday tasks and age-appropriate challenges help children develop independence and self-belief.

03

Space to Belong

A respectful, nurturing environment supports relationships, emotional development and a sense of community.

In practice

What this looks like day to day

  1. A prepared environment

Every shelf is arranged with purpose: a small number of beautiful, real materials, each with its place, all within a child’s reach.

  2. Freedom within limits

Children choose their work and how long to stay with it, within clear, kind boundaries that keep everyone safe and respected.

  3. Uninterrupted time

Long work periods let children settle into deep concentration — the state where real learning happens.

  4. Adults as guides

Educators observe closely, introduce materials at the right moment, and then step back to let children discover.

  5. Mixed experiences

Children learn from and with one another — older children model and consolidate, younger ones watch and aspire.

  6. Respect, always

We speak to children at eye level, honour their feelings, and treat their work as seriously as they do.

“The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’”Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind

Why a trellis?

Structure that supports, never confines

Our name carries our promise. Children need a steady framework — predictable routines, warm relationships, thoughtfully chosen materials — and within it, the freedom to explore, make choices and try again.

  • We provide the support; children provide the growth.
  • We follow each child’s interests and readiness.
  • We celebrate effort and process, not just outcomes.
  • We partner closely with families, who know their children best.
